Our History
Accredited by the British Complementary Medicines Association (BCMA), the College provides Ayurvedic practitioner-level programmes in Milton Keynes in addition to pioneering Ayurvedic education in France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Croatia, and Japan. The College of Ayurveda was first established as an independent non-profit organisation in 1997 under the aegis of the Ayurvedic Medical Association (UK) and the leadership of Dr. Mauroof M. Athique. In 2000, the College was registered as an educational institute by the Companies House, UK.
In 2005, The College developed a collaborative partnership with Middlesex University, London. This was the first time for a public institution in the West (outside of India and Sri Lanka) to recognise Ayurvedic Medicine as a university degree course. The College also played a major role in the regulation process of herbal medicine (Ayurveda) initiated by the UK government. In 2011, the UK government announced an increase of tuition fees for undergraduate university students, which resulted in Middlesex University increasing its fees for new starters from 2012/2013. This mainly affected mature students, who were unable to secure student loans because they were not first time undergraduate students. With most of the students on the Ayurveda programme being mature students, the fee increase had a significant impact on the course. Of the 15 successful applicants to the programme, only 3 students were able to procure a student loan, and as a result, the University had no alternative but to withdraw the programme.
In 2014, The College of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy was invited by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills to participate in a study of Alternative Providers of Higher Education in the UK, proving another milestone for the College.
Currently, The College of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy offers a DipHE in Ayurvedic Medicine and through our connection with S-Vyasa University in India we also offer our students an MSc in Yoga Therapy.
Alongside our DipHE and MSc we offer short courses for personal advancement and CPD courses and workshops for those who are already qualified therapists and practitioners
